What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Mission Statement

We are becoming a faithful community of disciples
striving to share the heart, mind, and hands of Jesus Christ to ALL People.

The Holy Spirit continually leads St. Luke’s to seek God’s Vision for the present and future witness of this vital church. With roots dating back to 1867, this present-day urban congregation has been a dynamic contributor to Wesleyan Christianity in the Mid-South. Today, that service continues. Amidst all the challenges of 21st century life, we sense God calling us to have a clear vision, authentic worship, faith-centered goals, and be open to ALL people in order to be the faithful church God desires. This means we are neither about self nor maintaining an institution. We are about answering the call to be part of what God is doing at this time and place to transform and redeem this community and the world.

Ministries of the HEART

Luke10:27: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart…”
To strive for the heart of Christ, we will first and foremost discover and re-discover the whole-hearted discipleship Christ beckons us to embrace in an atmosphere of acceptance and forgiveness. We know that all the studies, plans and projections we might make are doomed unless we deepen our faith together. As the crucial starting point of our response to God’s Love and Grace, we will seek to share the Heart of Jesus authentically through Worship, Prayer and Care for ALL God’s people. There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Ministries of the MIND

Philippians 2:5 “…have the same mind in you that was in Christ Jesus.”
We rejoice in the gift of Reason God has given us. With appreciation for the wonderful heritage of Christian Education, we dedicate ourselves to the search for wholeness and holiness through Sunday School, Bible study groups, and small groups that support learning experiences of all kinds and active engagement with the needs of our congregation, neighbors, and community.

Ministries of HAND

Luke 10:27:  “…and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Our St. Luke’s identity is strongly connected to servanthood, in the spirit of Christ as he washed the feet of the disciples. Through our many outreach activities and food ministries we are determined to continue being a channel of caring for those in need, nearby and around the world. In essence we are all missionaries.
