20080304_epistle_coverThe Epistle for March 4th, 2008, is now available. From Pastor Mark’s Epistle:

Dear Friends,

We are approaching the heart of the Lenten season now, and I hope you have been following our theme: the call to “Journey with Jesus to the Cross…” through prayer and daily disciplines.

A couple of folks have asked me, “Why so much emphasis on Lent?” Here is my attempt at a response:

—Let’s be clear that we are not just “copying” our Catholic brothers and sisters or other traditions. Our founder, John Wesley, very strongly emphasized prayer, meditation and fasting — in fact, year round I feel that Lent is simply a good time to remind ourselves of these disciplines and perhaps to make a new start;

—The pivotal happenings in Christian faith relate to Good Friday and Easter; nothing is more crucial than Jesus’ Sacrificial Love on the Cross and this amazing victory over death in the Resurrection just as we should prepare as best we can for anything momentous in our lives, so we should prepare our hearts for these truly “high holy days.”

I hope this helps in our understanding of this special time. By journeying with Jesus, you are declaring your intention to follow Him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength…

In service, …Pastor Mark
