From the Prayer of Confession:
Loving Source of our being,
You have loved us with an everlasting love—you gave us your only eternal Son as a sacrifice for our sin, and sent us your Holy Spirit to shed abroad your love within us, and to empower us to love even as we have been loved. Yet we have not loved you with our whole heart, and we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
Forgive us for the ingratitude that causes us to take your love for granted, even as we forgive those who have offended us. Forgive us our broken promises, our half-hearted response to your claim upon us. Save us from excluding some from our circle of friends while including only those who think like we do. Help us break through barriers of culture and gender, as Jesus did in his ministry. Save us from our feelings of unworthiness before you, loving God. And give us hope and trust in your guidance, in your love and in your mercy.
Amen.
