The Epistle for Feb. 12, 2008, is now available. From Pastor Mark’s Epistle:
Dear Friends,
Now we are well into our Lenten journey, forty days of deepening devotion. I was very pleased with the large attendance for our Ash Wednesday service on the evening of February 6.
As we move through these days, I want to invite you into the ancient custom of fasting. This simple form of self-denial involves foregoing a meal. For health reasons, we are not asking anyone to go completely without nourishment. The plan is to forego our usual kind of Friday mid-day meal and have liquid only. The next step is to set aside for donation of $4 or so we might otherwise have spent on a lunch.
By the time of Easter, each of us will have about $20 to donate to Lenten World Hunger. We will also have identified with people of much of the world for whom two or even just one meal a day is the norm.
Also, we have some informative surveys and special calendars available on request for all who want to know more about our Conference’s Lenten World Hunger emphasis.
Please be in prayer for all the many ways faithful disciples observe this holy season….
In service, …Pastor Mark
