Dear Friends,
The Lenten Disciplines are very important as we embark on the forty-day “Journey with Jesus to the Cross” beginning this Wednesday. Here are some practical ways to join in together. I urge your participation in as many ways as possible…
• read THREE SIMPLE RULES: A Wesleyan Way of Living by Bishop Rueben Job. We have a few copies at St. Luke’s, ($5), or you can order/buy at Cokesbury, Bookstar or yahoo.com. Three studies on this insightful work will be presented on Mondays, February 11, 18 & 25 (see article).
• read THE UPPER ROOM daily. We have ordered extra copies for the season; pick one up at church information desk.
• FAST as a sign of devotion as well as healthy self-care, some of us are going to join in foregoing the noon meal each Friday of Lent.
• Be PRESENT at the meaningful observances all the way through Easter.
• PRAY daily for all in need, including yourself in the confessional spirit of the old spiritual, “It’s me, it’s me, oh Lord, Standing in the need of prayer…”
