The Epistle for Jan. 29, 2008, is now available. From Pastor Mark’s Epistle:
Dear Friends,
At our bi-district event last Sunday, a good introduction was given to the theme for our next Annual Conference — “Radical Hospitality.” There are several good books out on this, and we plan to get copies for St. Luke’s. One book that has already been studied by our Vision Team is Christianity for the Rest of Us, by Diana Butler Bass.
Quoting from Bass’s book, our seminar included that “Christians welcome strangers as we ourselves have been welcomed into God through the love of Jesus Christ. Through hospitality, Christians imitate God’s welcome.”
Let’s always “roll out the red carpet” for people. We have some good momentum in this direction. Make prayers of thanksgiving for:
… our greeters, ushers, visitors and assimilators who do such fine works of hospitality.
… our plan for a hospitality center on the St. Luke’s campus; be watching for a preliminary report from Trustees soon.
… and for YOU, YOURSELF, as a potential giver of hospitality by the way you live out your discipleship.
Thanks!
In service, …Pastor Mark
