Accentuate the Positive Have you ever wondered why people seem to focus so much on the negative? It seems to be a part of the human condition. We often criticize things before we praise them. Traffic backs up at the scene of an accident while rubberneckers try to catch a glimpse of a potentially gruesome scene. I hardly watch the news anymore because it seems so focused on the negative.
The Bible even bears witness to this fact in several stories such as the Israelites journey in the wilderness after the escape from Egypt. While Moses led the Israelites to the promised land after God had freed from captivity in Egypt, they began whine and complain against God, about the conditions and the food (Numbers21:4b-9). Later, we find Jonah sulking and angry at the salvation of the people of Nineveh (Jonah 3:10 - 4:11).
There are all kinds of sayings that are out there to try and combat this human characteristic of focusing on the negative.
"Every cloud has a silver lining." "The sun will come out tomorrow." Or one of those songs that illustrate the point, you've got to accentuate the positive.
Join us at the Element September 18 and 25 as we take a look at this human tendency to focus on the negative and try to change our focus to the positive. What positive things have you seen this week? What miracles have you witnessed?
